happy birthday mum.

i used to watch you and all your girlfriends
sitting around our kitchen table
laughing telling stories drinking tea
and i remember thinking
"i can't wait till i grow up to be just like you"
i remember your laugh
it would echo through the house
and my sister and i would look at each other
and laugh to
i remember Christmas presents
my first crochet bikini, the bucks fizz tape and the sweet valley high books
i remember you dressing my sister and i in matching outfits
with spots and strips and socks to match
and i won my first dancing competition and you were screaming
i remember watching prisoner with you
we were to young but you would let us stay up
and i remember how well you and dad could through a party
and we would watch the adults dance all night
from the top of the stairs
i remember your susie wong shoes
your coconut oil sun baking sessions
the way you would stand on one leg on the phone
with you other one tucked up like a stork
we would imitate you
i remember the smell of clean school uniforms
lettuce and tomato sandwiches when i was sick
and so many other wonderful things.
mum.
and i have missed your birthday again.
and i wasn't be there to bring you lilies and cook you dinner
but i thought of you all day.
happy birthday mum.
i love you very much.x

happy fathers day

when i was a  little girl
i remember telling mum
"when i grow up i am going to marry my dad."
i remember on the weekends when you would make our breakfast
and the cups of tea were white and sweet
and the toast was buttery and thick.
i remember the secret language you taught us
it used to drive mum crazy
and how to catch fishes
i remember sitting on the bathroom vanity watching you shave
and you would put shaving cream on my face and i would pretend to shave too.
i remember when mum was overseas and we thought it was a good idea
to take it in turns to cook
i almost killed us with creamy pasta
but you never complained.
i remember calling you from the valley at some crazy time in the morning
and you came and got me.
held my hair the night i drank too much
gave the bullies at school the fright of there lives
sat through endless haircuts while i was training to be a hairdresser
the only dad to do so
and hold 36 show bags while my brother and sister and i
rode every ride at the ekka.
i remember every thing you and mum did for us dad

of course it wasn't always easy.
nothing ever is.
but i wouldn't change a thing.
you have lived such an amazing life and you were always an inspiration
to me.
so i dedicate this to you dad.

i can't take you for breakfast this year(that you had to pay for because my card wouldn't work!)
but i will be thinking of you all day.
happy fathers day dad.
i love you very much.

Museum of Economic Botany.

The museum of Economic Botany was opened in 1881,and ironically it is significant as the whole entity has survived.Inside and out.now unfortunately I have just realised my photo of the outside of the building didn't work so i can't show you that now but i can say the building is still identical only the surrounds are even more beautiful. No pathway, just luscious green grass and trees.

1881

The volunteers did explain to me that the museum was a source of information,at the time, for new settlers in Adelaide. They could find the information and seeds required to start their veggie patches and farms.Being new Australians, the settlers were used to living in very different climates so this resource was necessary.

19th Century paper mache models from Germany ....none had a significant gold top...
so many different apples
The visitors book..couldn't help but notice the people just above us...all the way from Sunshine beach.

Educational inspirational sensational.

Adelaide Botanic Garden

Take the time to discover the beautiful Adelaide Botanic Garden, there's so much to see and do.
Within walking distance of the city centre, this historical garden features an exceptional Victorian gardenesque landscape complemented by outstanding plant collections, cultural collections and garden buildings.
The Adelaide Botanic Garden is home to three architecturally significant glass houses - the Palm house, the Bicentennial Conservatory and the Amazon Waterlily Pavilion. Each glass house was built for a specific purpose and represents a leading design for its time.
Visit the internationally significant Santos Museum of Economic Botany, which first opened to the public in 1881, or stroll down the oldest avenue of Moreton Bay fig trees in Australia.
View the exotic Victoria amazonica in the exquisite glass Amazon Waterlily Pavilion and continue into the tropics by visiting the Bicentennial Conservatory, the largest single span glasshouse in the southern hemisphere. Wander through the SA Water Mediterranean Garden displaying plants from the five Mediterranean climates of the world or go native in the Australian Native Garden.
Feature gardens include the, the Class ground, the International Rose Garden and National Rose Trial Garden, the Eremophilia Garden, the Cactus and Succulent Garden, and cycad and palm displays.
In addition to the buildings and plant collections, the garden has permanent and temporary public installations by South Australian artists and designers such as Fiona Hall and Khai Liew. They also regularly feature international artists. The Ginkgo Gate by Hossein and Angela Valamanesh is an exciting addition to the Garden of Health and Western Entrance.
You can have a casual meal in one of our cafés or go all-out with a fine dining experience at the Botanic Garden Restaurant. On a sunny day, bring a picnic and snooze the afternoon away on one of our lush green lawns......

So I didn't want to bore you with all the Trivia, but this place is pretty amazing.
We have been waiting for a sunny day and here it was.

.

this is a really cute statue erected on behalf of the Brownies.it says..lend a hand, play a game.

There it is.BLUE SKY.and walking through the Con.was like walking through the national park...

 then we saw this..small nod,lets go..moving forward...alittle home sick...

Strelitzia.I can't get past the range of blooms.its incredible.

Now,we enter the bamboo garden.Obviously the carvings in the bamboo trunk aren't a natural feature of the plant, but to my surprise there also wasn't a sign erect saying not to ..Adelaide is very supportive towards the arts in its city..so if you can't beat them, join them.

these were perfect little bells with a green spot around each drop.cute as.

this is the Palm house imported from Germany in 1875 and was given a tickle up in 1995.What a beautiful building and the succulent garden surrounding it is spectacular.

i mean, look at this guy,who does he think he is!

a pond/fountain inside.
pass the lily garden.
a quick sweet snack

another flower shot i know but they are all so unique

and then hey presto, another amazing tree.just like that.
The gardens are located at the end  North Terrace.Along side the Hospital,University,Art Gallery and the Museum and backs almost on to the Zoo.
Also located in the gardens is the Museum of Economic Botany.
Just finishing our ice creams and in we go.
