The "Popeye" boats are privately owned recreational ferries that operate on the lake between Elder Park and the Adelaide Zoo. The first boat was launched on the Torrens Lake by Gordon Watts in 1935. It was a 25-foot (7.6 m) boat, built on the banks of the River Torrens to hold up to 20 passengers and named Popeye 1.
So that makes Popeye adventures on the Torrens over 75 years old.
My sister was down for a few days(YES,VISITOR number 4)
Monday was such a beautiful day in Adelaide, a ride on the Popeye and a trip to the Zoo was the plan.
While sitting at the jetty waiting for the boat , this cheeky swan, big guy..came out of the water and marched right up to us.
Obviously hussling for food.He got so close I had to shoo him away.
Daves the driver.
Not an overly excitable fellow.
Clearly bored out of his brain.
But drove a safe boat and filled us in on all the history along the Torrens.
Kells going home to Queensland to tickle up her resume and send it to Popeye.
The Olive Oil of the Torrens..
I hope so.
