The Zoo.

I love the Adelaide Zoo.I'm not a fan of caging any animal. But I think the Adelaidians do it well.
The gardens are beautiful. The enclosures are fitting and all the animals seem as happy as Larry or Janice....

I was so excited to see Janice again and she was one of the ladies i wanted to introduce to Kell.
But it wasn't to be.

This was Janice in 2009.
She is gorgeous.
She passed away in September this year.
Making her just 35.

This guy was adorable. They had to keep him and Funi seperate as he was alittle rough with her..

She was sleeping soundly in her seperate airconditioned room...
one happy lady.

This lady was shy.She would stare at me throught the fence, but would look away when I would go to photograph her.
She had the longest eyelashes.

It took us about 3 hours to wander about and enjoy the Zoo.
It was a warm day and around 2 o'clock and almost all we snoozing.
Good thing to keep in mind if you are thinking of going.
Early morning the animals are much more active.

popeye the sailor man

The "Popeye" boats are privately owned recreational ferries that operate on the lake between Elder Park and the Adelaide Zoo. The first boat was launched on the Torrens Lake by Gordon Watts in 1935. It was a 25-foot (7.6 m) boat, built on the banks of the River Torrens to hold up to 20 passengers and named Popeye 1.

So that makes Popeye adventures on the Torrens over 75 years old.
My sister was down for a few days(YES,VISITOR number 4)
Monday was such a beautiful day in Adelaide, a ride on the Popeye and a trip to the Zoo was the plan.

While sitting at the jetty waiting for the boat , this cheeky swan, big guy..came out of the water and marched right up to us.
Obviously hussling for food.He got so close I had to shoo him away.

Daves the driver.
Not an overly excitable fellow.
Clearly bored out of his brain.
But drove a safe boat and filled us in on all the history along the Torrens.

Kells going home to Queensland to tickle up her resume and send it to Popeye.
The Olive Oil of the Torrens..
I hope so.

Chalk circle

In 1985, Peter Voice was arrested for drawing pictures of native parrots with chalk on the pavements of Melbourne, despite having a busking permit. Peter contacted ABC Radio and, after a brief public battle, common sense prevailed and, by December, legislation was in place recognising Pavement Art as a legitimate form of busking (two years later the same thing happened in Adelaide). In '86 Peter persuaded Bev Isaac to join him and try her hand. Bev quickly became and still is Melbourne's best known pavement artist. Unlike the street artists of Europe, where a tradition of copying old-masters prevailed, Peter and Bev drew contemporary original works bringing a new vibrancy and topicality to this ancient art form.

Within a couple of years Bev and Peter were in strong demand for festivals and special events through-out metropolitan and rural Victoria. More artists started working not only in Melbourne but in Sydney and Adelaide as well. Peter and Bev were regularly commissioned by (ironically) Melbourne City Council, Melbourne Comedy Festival, Adelaide Grand Prix and others. At the 1988 Glenhuntly Pavement Art Competition they met Ulla Taylor who soon teamed up with them on some bigger projects

The rest of there history can be read on their website

I was so inspired by watching these ladies creating this fantastic pavement art.How refreshing to see an old art form being utilised.I'm not exactly sure why,but it just felt right to see artists on their hands and knees working, chalking, painting as opposed to designing, computer manufactured posters and then printing...not that that isn't right either..but i'm just an old fashioned girl i guess and it was nice to be able to relate.
